In the beginning each present day continent was connected into one HUGE continent named Pangaea. Slowly, giant land masses and tectonic plates began to separate. India-Madagascar rifts from Africa ( 158-160 mya), India-Madagascar rift from Antarctica ( 130 mya), India-Seychelles from Madagascar ( 84-96 mya), India from Seychelles ( 65 mya), India began collision with Eurasia (55-65 mya), and finally final saturation happened (42-55 mya). Once the collision between India and Eurasia took place, the whole world changed! It created the Himalayas which in turn, consequentially, changed the whole world's climate and weather patterns. This made the once dense forested Africa dyer, making apes set foot on land more often for the first time instead of swinging from tree to tree to get somewhere. Because of this one simple act, evolution began to take its toll.

A: Why were religions created? : Religions were created to help people cope with their surroundings and explain the unexplainable. They were created so they could live with hope and have something to believe in and have something to look forward to. Something to help them keep balance in their lives.
B: Could we live without religion? : I believe religion is apart of society and in today's society we have the technology and knowledge to explain some aspects of life which could not be explained before because of the lack of these things. However, I believe religion is a solid base that keeps a lot of people in order and without it many would lose hope and do many immoral and injurious things. So it is yes to a certain extent.
C: How does religion mold a culture to fit a certain Classification types? : Religion molds culture by influencing people's lifestyles, customs, traditions, their actions and their reactions, marriage and family life, and perspectives on life and things in general. Religion is at the root of a lot of mankind's problem because it can cause chaos in many situations. Some people get so involved they become devious for the sake of their beliefs. They start doing horrible actions for their "greater good". Mass killings, war, and genocides are a prime example of such terrible deeds.

A: Why were religions created? : Religions were created to help people cope with their surroundings and explain the unexplainable. They start doing horrible actions for their "greater good". Mass killings, war, and genocides are a prime example of such terrible deeds.

What creates, sustains, and structures a culture is their interaction between person to person, older people to younger people. People explain things to younger children or others and it passes down generation to generation (Enculturation). Also a central government because not only does it control and puts people in order but it also supports and tells their people what religion to follow. Every single concept connects to each other. From their government, to the people, to their religion, to other neighboring cultures, outside influences, their agriculture, lifestyle, etc. Like a domino reaction, the balance is so delicate, if one simple thing goes wrong, the whole thing falls apart.
The main characteristics of a culture include:
1. Medicine
2. Rituals/Traditions/Religion
3. Clothing/Jewelry
4. Architecture
5. Music
6. Gender roles
7. Language
8. Jobs/Positions/Roles
9. Diet (Agriculture)
10. Currency and Social Classes
11. Technology
12. Geology
13. Oral History
14. Art/Symbolism
15. Biological Features
16. Dissemination/Passing Information

mayan

Cultural Inquiry

1. Which is the culture you're studying? : Mayan
2. Where is this culture located? : Throughout Central America (present day Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Belize). They were centralized in Mexico and throughout the Yucatan Peninsula.
3. How did your culture get there? : Many people believe that the ancestors of the Mayans crossed the Bering Strait at least 20,000 years ago. They were nomadic hunter-gatherers. Evidence of settled habitation in Mexico is found in the Archaic period 5000-1500 BC. The second migration, was led from the west by Kukulcan, founder of the Mayan kingdom and civilization.
4. How long has this culture been established? : By the second century A.D., Mayan developments had progressed to a point of florescence known as the classical period, which lasted until the tenth century.
5. What kind of family unit do they have? : The Mayan family all lived together. The men farmed and hunted. The women would cook and weave. The children helped out their mothers with the chores and only went to school if they came from a noble family. Most households consisted of several related adults, and could include couples with young children, adolescents, young adults, and grandparents.
6. What kind of marriage system? : Polygamy was unknown, but concubinage was permitted, and divorce was easy. Marriages were performed by the priests, with much ceremonial rejoicing, and preceded by a solemn confession and a baptismal rite, known as the "rebirth", without which there could be no marriage. Also, no one could marry out of his own rank or without the consent of their chief.
7. What kind of currency? : cacao bean, the source of chocolate was one of their main use of currency
8. What kind of government system? : The Mayans developed a hierarchical government ruled by kings and priests. They lived in independent city-states consisting of rural communities and large urban ceremonial centers.
9. What is the religion or spiritual belief system of this culture? : The Mayan religion was characterized by the worship of nature gods (especially the gods of sun, rain and corn), a priestly class, the importance of astronomy and astrology, rituals of human sacrifice, and the building of elaborate pyramidical temples.
10. What kind of music or musical instruments are significant to this culture? : Marimba is a musical instrument used by the Mayas, it produces the most unique sounds for entertainment, dance, drama, special activities and ceremonies.
11. What type of maturation rituals/customs do they have? :
12. Are there ruins or artifacts that are features of this culture? : yeah, a lot
13. Are there domestic or wild animals that identify with this culture specifically? : Animal that live in the Mayan region are : spider monkeys, peccarys (wild pig), coatlmundis, rattlesnakes, yellowhead parrots, crocodiles, margays, ocelots, and jaguars.
14. Are there specific tools, hunting implements or methods that this culture uses to find and catch food? : They had powerful using arrows with obsidian point
15. Is there a large amount of indingenous population left in the original region? : The Maya did not cease to exist when their ancient cities went into decline. They live on today in the same areas their ancestors inhabited. Although their culture has changed over time, many Mayas maintain their language and traditions.
16. What caused the decline or rise of this culture's current population size? : Many theories have been put forward, ranging from natural catastrophes (epidemic, earthquake, drought) to warfare. Archaeologists today generally believe that a combination of elements brought about the collapse of the Mayan empire, probably brought on by severe drought and deforestation.

It was a cold and stormy night. Jessica and Morgan were home alone at their computer chatting online.
“Oh my God, check out this new website Gus just sent me over AIM.”
-“Oh what is it? Click it!”
Morgan clicks it in anticipation. “Gus said it’s a physic website. You ask “Peter” any question and he’ll answer it right every time!”
The girls were eager to type in a question. They were a bit skeptical yet afraid at the same time. They look closely at the screen and begin to sit at the edge of their seats as they type in their first question.
“What should I ask, Jessica?”
-“I don’t know, something simple just to test it out. Um...ask him what are our names.”
Morgan types the question. In a split second, Peter answers “Jessica and Morgan.”
The girls look horrified and their jaw drops. Then Jessica starts laughing hard.
*smack *
“Don’t laugh, Jessica! It’s not funny. It’s creepy.” Morgan complains.
-“Oh whatever! Ask him another question.”
“Ask what?”
-“Ask who’s home.”
Morgan types in the question. In almost an instant, they see the answer on the screen. “Someone’s outside waiting for you.” The girls panic as they look at each other in shock and disbelief. Jessica scurries over to the window to go check if it was true. Yet all she saw was the darkness of the night, the trees blowing from left to right and rain pouring down sideways.
*boooom… *
All of a sudden the computer shuts off. The lights shut off. The whole power is shut off.
“Jessica…?”
-“Yeah, I’m here.”
“Oh my God, what happened?!”
-“I don’t know! I’m scared as hell! We need to do something. Um…let me think.”
*She ponders and tries to figure out what to do first. *
“Okay, I’ll go look for a flashlight so I can go check the power and you try calling my mom.”
-“Okay. Hurry back.”
Jessica was used to being in her house while it was dark. She knew exactly where she was going. She knew exactly where each piece of furniture was placed, where each wall was located, and where each door and room was.
As she tried to find the flashlight Morgan was still in the computer room. Morgan tried calling Jessica’s mom three times and she didn’t answer.
*sigh *
“Well I guess she’s still at work…”
She thought back to the physic website. Oh my God, what if it’s true? What if someone was outside waiting us? What if they shut down the power…? In a second she begins to panic and get terrified. She didn’t want to be alone. Jessica was taking so long already. She jerked up to look around her but it was too dark to see anything. She felt as if someone were watching her. She then began to feel defensive.
As Jessica looked through the room, she couldn’t find the flashlight.
*sighs and collapses on the floor *
“Oh well… who knows where that stupid thing is. I guess we’ll just have to do without.”
As she starts walking out again she hears a scream.
“AHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!”
Jessica runs to Morgan.
“Morgan! Morgan! Dude where are you?!!!”
No answer.
She starts to panic and walks slowly to the room. Morgan wasn’t there!
“Oh my God, oh my God, what should I do???”
She goes out and start

Intro

1. Origins of modern humans has traditionally foccussed on two contrasting views.
2. Multi-regional evolution proposes presently poulation worldwide are descendent of in situ evolution after an initial dispersal of homo erectus from Africa during the Lower Pleistocene.
3. All present-day poulation are decended from recent common ancestor that lived in East Africa ~ 150 years ago the population which replaced all regional populations.
4.

Our Changing View

1. New evidence shows that they overlapped in time with other populations of Homo in Asia and Europe, challenging the established view that behaviorally superior modern humans caused the extinction of congeners when they met.
2. Homo Florensiensis on Flores, Indoneisa was an example of island dwafism in the genus.
3. Homo erectus evolved in isolation 18 ka. It has shown contrary to established thinking, that modern humans, only very recently became the sole representatives of the genus on the planet.
4. Late survival of archaic hominins might be a feature of tropical and warm temperature in the Old World. Homo erectus in Central Java and Europe indicates that Neadrethals survived in the southern Atlantic refugia as recently as 28 ka.
5. Modern humans did not carry a massavive advantage that caused the exitiction of the population Homo when they met.

Early Hominin Dispersal

1. The earliest representative of the genus Homo is found in tropical East Africa 1.9 mya.
2. New species Homo antecessor was proposed ancestor of all later Homo. It's dated to 780 ka and the single cranium.
3. Homo antecessor is probably a dead end because the fossil record of their stones are highly fragmented, which makes everything unconvincing.
4. Central and nothern Europe was involved with Homo heidelbergensis. This occupation is likely to have been limited to mild climatic episodes, based on evidence from associated vegetation and fuana.
5.

Mid- and Late- Pleistocene

1. A population of larged-brained Homo heidelbergensis, had already embarked on an evolutionary trajectory from African African Homo erectus to Homo sapiens by 600 ka.
2. Mitochondrial DNA sequences from five Neanderthals speciems has strengthened the view that they were a lineage that was seperate from the ancestors of modern humans.
3. Neanderthals and modern humans evolved at the same time in different areas.
4. Dates for the first anatomically modern humans (195 ka) indicate that they were restricted to tropical Africa for up to 80 ka
5. Suggests that species attributes, such as large brain and complex behavior were not the trigger for this disperal into Levant.
6. Anatomically modern humans crossed the Sahara and are present in the Middle East between 120 and 80 ka. However, it did not result in colonization of Europe.
7. Dispersal eastward, kept them within the tropical belt, making it easier for them to track enviorments they were fimilar with.
8. Arrival in Austrailia 50 ka marks the earliest occupation of the continent
9. It is supported that early dispersal followed a coastal route.
10. Later dispersals of modern humans have been into vacant territory previously occupied by earlier modern humans given.
11. In other areas, modern humans encountered other hominins such as Neaderthals.
12. A behavioral shift enabled modern humans to exploit resources more efficiently and expand geographically out of Africa
13. Climate-forced ecological change opened a window of opportunity for a small African population to disperse across the Sahara.
14. Some argue that anatomically modern humans only spread into Eurasia after 50 ka, even though they had been in Africa for atleast 100 ka before this time.
15. African moderns developed an advangtage that made them behaviorally as well as anatomically modern that they were able to disperse and outcompete other humans. There is, in reality, no convincing evidence to show such sudden behavioral change

Modern Humans vs. Neanderthals

1. Language is a crucial element that distinguishes modern humans from Neanderthals
2. The FOXP2 gene, which is involved in speech and language has been provied 200 ka. Protolanguage however, has gone back as far as 1 mya.
3. Parallel process might have driven analogous language evolution in other hominins including Neanderthals.
4. Neanderthal genes have not contributed to the current gene pool.
5. Maxium interbreeding between modern humans and Neanderthals should have been <0.1%
6. Neanderthals were capable of of behavior that is contributed to modern humans

Towards A Model Of Evolution

1. It is unlikely that the genus Homo would have evolved as it did in the absence of the climatic vicissitudes of the Pleistocene.
2. Modern humans would not have evolved into generalists that were capable to adapt rapidly to their enviorments and complex social behavior.
3. High resolution climatic study, phylogeography and computer modeling of populations, will be the central to our understanding of the evolution of our genus.

Terms

1. in stitu - an artifact that has not been moved from its original place of deposition
2. island dwarfism - the process and condition of the reduction in size of large animals - almost always mamals - when their gene pool is limited to a very small environment, primarily islands
3. single cranium -
4. allopatry - when populations physically isolated by an extrinsic barrier and if the barrier between the populations breaks down, individuals of the two populations can no longer interbreed
5. Levant - is an imprecise geographical term historically referring to a large area in the Middle East
6. saltationist - is a sudden change from one generation to the next, that is large, or very large, in comparison with the usual variation of an organism
7. behavioral shift -
8. FOXP2 gene - a gene that is implicated in the development of language skills
9. analogous language - same fuction, different gene pool
10. protolanguage - a language which was the common ancestor of related languages that form a language family
11. vicissitude - natural changes or mutations visible in nature or in human affairs
12. Homo Floresiensis - found in Flores, Indonisia, Homo Floresiensis was a species in the genus Homo. It is very small and might be a unique example of island dwarfism in the genus (18ka)
13. Homo erectus - Earliest rep. of the genus Homo is found in tropical East Africa (.19 mya)
14. Homo antecessor - was propsed ancestor of all later Homo (780 ka)
15. Homo heidelbergensis - fist occupation of central and northern Europe was later (0.5 mya) and involved Homo heidelbergensis

Writing of realistic society, women's perspective, and satire during the Romanticism age won her plenty of attention showed her as a daring revered novelist. From an early age, she grew to love literature and frequently went to the library to read books. Her and her family also acted out out plays and in which helped her act out the stories she'd write. She got plenty of support from her brother Henry who also happend to write himself. Growing up in England's society really influenced her writing topics and style. Her topics often included the real hardships women had to go through that era and one's own self control and reason. Critisizing the 'snobberish' upper class, she had much speculation.
justin broke up with me...
you have no idea how much it hurts.
i truly love him with all of my heart.
he said that if we stuck together, later on it will only be harder to break up.
but you know...after you both decide its not working out and you dont feel the same way anymore, its not so hard. its just a mutual agreement and you move on.
but he says he still loves me and i still certainly damn love him. i dont see where this is going. also, the ride issue and stuff. i mean...i'll do anything to make our relationship work out and be successful. WHATEVER. and i'll even go up there if thats what it takes. its not a big deal. i WILL go over there. it sucks because i mean...theres this girl on my class, gaby. and shes been going out with another kid in my class and theyve been going out sinbce 9th grade and are still together better than ever. why cant i have that? why does our situation have to be different. i guess cuz they both go to the same school but that doesnt mean that they should break up because theyre so in love with eachother and later on it will hurt. thats such a stupid reason.i guess i know how ricky felt when i broke up with him...but the thing is i never loved ricky. ...well maybe justin never loved me. even though i told ricky i did, i really didnt. maybe justin is the same way. damn karamas a bitch. i honestly think theres another girl in the picture. or another girl WANTING to get in the picture. its such a horrible feeling. i cried and cried...AND I NEVER CRY! but that just shows you how hurt i really am. i love this boy. i wish he could understand. i didnt even go to sleep that night. i couldnt even CRY myself to sleep. how pathetic is that. i pulled an all-nighter and just went to school with a bad headache, no sleep, and puffy eyes. people could tell sometime was wrong and tried to ask me about it. even people who had never spoken to me before. cindy was a big help. everyone tried to cheer me up..it wouldnt really work. they tried to get other guys to go out with me and some said yes. that was kind of funny and helped me cope but not really. i didnt want them. i still dont. I WANT JUSTIN.

i wish he could see that this is all a mistake. im still hoping its some mean big practical joke. it feels so surreal. everything i do, see, smell, say reminds me of justin and our history and memories..moments and just him in general. and i miss him sooo much. i dont know why he doesnt love me anymore. atleast not as much as he used to..
i guess he wants to move on. but im....just not ready to let go..

It was really good.

anyway.
i didnt go to school today. i really should have. because some people were going to bring me presents and then my chemistry class was going down to the river. so i missed out on that. i just didnt want to go because i didnt do my homework and i feel like i need to catch up so i didnt go.

i miss justin a lot..i havent REALLY talked to him since that thursday. we'll see what happens next...

so me and my boy went out to dinner. we went to olive garden the one in the burbank empire center. i was kind of worried and so was he. he only had about 32 dollars and the food was really expensive. i was eating with a lot of unease and i was nervous because i wasnt sure what the bill was going to be and whether or not we would be under budget. so we were just sitting there adding stuff up and i was worried still.. when the check came it was like 27 dollars. i was so glad.. i know i could have eaten a lot better and with more ease if i knew how much it was. it was my first dinner date haha. it was his too. it was cute.

the lady could have served us better though. she was nice but she wasnt ontop of it. we only had enough to give her like a dollar in tip.
we had just enough to get back home on the bus and to get change for the phone. he called, no one was home. he left a message. when we came back we just cuddled in bed for a bit.

and then

DUM DUM DUMMM

my brother knocked my door.

and we got up and my brother probably thought we were up to something since only the lamp was on and he heard us make noise when getting off my bed. i opened the door and hes like... whats up. and i was like um nothing. and hes like...whatre you doing. and i was like..nothing. and he looked at me in that iffy way for a while. and then he just left.

we seriously werent doing anything. and i told justin that it was just better if he sat up just incase. so he did. i tried to sleep but i couldnt..i had to have him hold me and comfort me..i didnt feel right for me just trying to take a nap and for him to be sitting there. so we stayed in for a little bit. then i told him that maybe he should go try and call again. i really really wanted to go with him. but i was so tired. and i felt so horrible to just let him go by himself at night in the cold. i told him to give me a kiss, he did, and he went on his way. i fell in deep sleep right when he left. and when he came back in my room i woke up. i missed him so much..

right when he got here, like 5 mins after i heard a car honk. and i told him he should go check because maybe its his family. so he did. and hes like...yeah i think it is them. and said okay i'll see you later i love you. and he gave me a kiss. and i said okay and that i loved him too. we said bye and he closed my door and left..

i got so sad but relieved at the same time. im so glad he was going home because i dont like..and i know he doesnt either..feeling like hes stranded here with no ride. i was happy knowing he was more calm because he had someone pick him up now. but i wished he could always just stay here. atleast sleepover.

i truly think i love him with everything i have now. i love him more than i have ANYBODY. its a great feeling to have. a feeling i didnt think i could feel again since tony. but hes more than him now. much much more. i dont think any boy ive gone out with or dated could even compare to him. he's the best boy. i never met anyone as sweet and funny and considerate and cute and as fun as he is. and what makes it more great is that he loves me too. i really believe we're going to be together for a long time. atleast i really hope so. i dont want any other boy...and if he wants to, i will even stop talking to any of my guy friends..just for him. and i really mean that...my friends mean a lot to me. but justin means the world to me.

okokokokokOK.
yesterday was great/shitty day. but im happy about it =]
justin came over and brought me flowers and chocolate <333
then we hung out in my room for a while [long while]
i just wanted to be with him and my clothes was still in the laundry so i was just bumming it.
my mom left and only my dad was home but i never really talk to him and he leaves me alone so it was cool. me n justin ended up busting a quicky. hahaha =P
when my laundry was done i changed and then we went to the kitchen and baked a cake together =]
after that, we went back to my room and i put some eyeliner and some red underneath his eyes
OMG he looked sooooo hot. haha i was like wow
then we were on our way to hollywood.
we were waiting for the bus and it turns out WE GOT ON THE WRONG BUS. omg i was so fucking pissed off. we spent an hour on it. and spent another hour going back. i felt so bad but justin was telling me not to worry and that it was ok..but i still felt bad...
we decided we were gonna head back and go to another bus stop. that bus didnt come for like 45 mins. and it was soo cold!! we smoked a cig together so it could keep us warm. then he sat down and i sat on his lap and we were just trying to keep eachother warm.
FINALLY the bus came. and then we went to the subway station and the first stop is hollywood so we went. SURPRISINGLY..there werent that many people. but i think it was because it was like 10 and people have school or work and stuff. we hung out in the mall for a while. we both had only like 3 dollars together.
we went to mcdonalds cuz we were starving. we just bought a cheeseburger and fries off the dollar menu. after that he stopped to smoke another cig. haha. he looks so relaxed when hes smoking. i like that he holds the cig for me to smoke whenever i want to or whenever he offers some. i think thats cute.
when he was done we went into the subway station, waited for the bus after, and came home..
it was maybe 12 or so.
when we came home we were so tired..cuz we had a long day. the shitty part was just being out in the cold waiting for buses...and getting on the wrong bus.
everything else was good.
either way, i was just happy i was with him. we layed down in bed for a bit. and i got into my pj's and under the blankets and he did too. THEN WE HAD SEX. hahah. ya i cant lie, it was really really great. that was the 2nd time..well 3rd time [counting the time we did it earlier that day]we had sex. and im kinda happy because it was great so im looking forward to more lmao =]
after i was a bit worried cuz we didnt use anything. and we didnt use anything the first time we did it and earlier that day. even though he pulled out er w/e it still got me scared... i really want to get pills or a patch or something =S LUCKILY. i got my period right now [thank God]. we stayed in bed til 1:15. we fell asleep together..it was soo nice. hes so warm and just being in his arms made me feel so happy and safe...he whispered that he loved me. and i knew he meant it..he always does. when we woke up my parents were still at work. he got worried because he had no ride back home. he tried calling his house, no one answered. even josh's house but he didnt answer either. so we were both like damn wth are we gonna do. i told him he could just sleepover. and he said my parents would freak. and they would because theyre VERY old fashioned and traditional. so i told him its okay that when they got home i would explain. i always get my way anyhow. bwahaha. i think im spoiled in the way that when i want something i get it..not material wise. [i dont like asking for things unless i REALLY need it so ya]but anyway. he slept in the next room. in my head i knew that my mum was gonna want to take him home even if it was 5 am. and i was right. my rents came home at 5:00. i explained. my parents were iffy about the whole thing. but i told them not to worry. so we gave him a ride home...
he said thanks to my mum and bye to me. i missed him the moment he stepped out of the car..
it was a really long ride. [he lives pretty far] me n my mom talked. shes worried i will have sex with him. but at the same time she says she trusts me and him because he seems like a respectful boy. haha
i mean hes the first boy i ever done anything with. i love justin. hes amazing. i could talk about him for ages and why hes so great. hes sooo nice. hes so amazingly sweet. hes so fucking hot. he dresses so cute. hes so cute in the way that he does cute adorable things. hes always considerate. hes loyal. hes so funny! and when i see him with his friends it makes me smile because i know theres another side to him...and the fact that he shows me the sweet and romantic side only to me makes me smile. hes always messing around with his friends and stuff its funny. i love the fact that he likes anime and indie and video games and such. i have a thing for nerdy people. haha i have no idea why?! that sounds weird huh? especially that coming from someone like me. but i love that we're different. i want him to show me things he knows and likes. i know that will bring us closer than if we just liked the same things. because then he wouldnt be as excited to show me new things and i wouldnt be surprised and excited either..

hehe. anyway... =]
well we came home and thats pretty much where it ends. i ate some chinese food. went on the comp to go to myspace for 2 secs to see if i had messages/comments/etc.
and then i went to sleep..
what a wonderful day.
